my auto-saves are always 1 minute... but yes, i tried various ones... none of them worked. also the Real-Time Properties, Color, and Event Windows I always have open are also closed. I don't understand.

are you saying if you open a session
from say, a week ago, different song even,
that those auto lanes and windows are corrupted also?

if so, then ignore my workaround.

but, just to be clear, after a crash,
i can open an earlier version that i saved,
not one from the back up folder,
and my windows and lanes appear as they should.

if i open the sessions from prior to the crash they auto lanes and windows are fine. they don't import into any session after the crash though.

That's half of elicious's fix

once you have an open uncorrupted session
then you go to your most recent saved backup
and import your most recent moves into the correct looking one.

Just to clarify. When you say import you mean import session data (alt+shift+i) right?

oh... so the other way around from what i thought you were saying. i was attempting to import session data from the good LOOKING old session (the one where all the correct automation lanes are open) into the session that has most recently been saved. you are saying to do the opposite if i am not mistaken... ok. seems backwards but that makes sense!
