Default Any chance of SSC, or some HTDM softsynths becoming TDM?

Does anyone know if there's any chance that we'll see a true TDM version of Soft SC anytime soon?

There just isn't enough power in even the best Macs to run more than a few D-C apps at once. Plus, HTDM is an awful lot of trouble, compared to TDM. I would gladly by more process-cards if the TDM apps were available.

Digi, here's my vote.

Also, I hope Digi is putting pressure/incentives on companies like Native Insts to make their apps tru-TDM. Digidesign, PLEASE do so!

I completely agree.
Most of the new plug-ins seem to be RTAS with a few HTDM.

Why no HDtdm plug-ins?.

We've been discussing this over at Gearslutz...

Interesting thread, but it seems like most of the posters consider HTDM to be the answer. Notice people liking the current NI situation.

We need actual TDM apps, not HTDM.

native instruments have stated flat out that they will NEVER support a dsp architecture. Hence there name...(NATIVE instruments)

Hi,

I don't see why everyone is so keen for HTDM for softsynths. Softsynths don't need to be on Aux's or masterfaders, so why waste a whole chip for the streammanager.
RTAS works fines for a native format for softsynths.
I too would like to see more TDM,mainly for latency, but I don't think this going to happen a lot. Good to see RTAS is getting more popular overall.

Mesh, the advantage of HTDM over RTAS is that you can instantiate on an aux-input. thus, you can have "virtual" sound-playback without having to record the audio.

Unfortunately, there is quite a bit more latency with HTDM.

True-TDM is the way to go.

I would think Digi would be pushing the third-party software guys in this direction, as it would A: give more substance to the whole "TDM is king" thang, and B: sell more dsp-cards.

Until you can span chips, it's not worth considering. Even then, it probably won't happen.

We calculated four TDM chips required to do a Hammond B-3. And then another chip for the distortion, and then another chip for the Leslie.

Also, there's not enough memory on the cards to do a sampler... and you can't transfer memory to the card quickly enough from the host.

Even worse: the market for softsynths is tiny. Doing a TDM-only softsynth wouldn't pay off the IMMENSE development required.

Thanks, Erik.

You have been a GREAT source of information this year.

How dissapointing this particular information is, though.

Digi had better come out with a more powerful dsp-card, AND FAST.

Even some plugins can't run on them at 96K. -and it's only going to get worse.
