C|24 Sound Problems
I'm a new user to Pro Tools and to the c|24 control surface, so please forgive me if I leave out vital information.
The issue I am having is that when playing audio back through Pro Tools 11, there is no sound playing back to our monitors, even though all tracks and the master fader are showing something playing. I've searched for answers and have tried resetting both the I/O settings to default and resetting Pro Tools' settings, turned it off and on again, I've tested different monitors and XLR cables, none of which worked. I believe I don't have the I/O settings correct, but I'm not sure where to look for a correct setup. Specifically I am not sure what should be set as the default output, or what the outputs should even be. Right now the hardware is set to the 192 #1 device. From my basic understanding our setup is thus: We are running OS X 10.8, and running 2 cables from the Pro Tools HDX card in the machine to two 192 digital interfaces. We have 2 monitors as well connected to a snake with a bunch of XLR male connectors, which is connected to the c|24. The c|24 and the computer are connected by Ethernet, and Pro Tools recognizes the control surface and works with it. The input side of things works fine, we have 4 microphones connected and working. What other information do I need to provide help with troubleshooting? |

Re: C|24 Sound Problems
Hi, your 192s are Digital only? No analog outs? Normally outputs 1-2 are the main outputs. My HD rig is set up as 9-10 for the main outs as I use a UA2192 as my monitor outs via AES out from my #1 Lynx. If you are attempting to use the C/24 for monitoring then your 192s main outs (1-2) would need to go into the C/24s DB25s main inputs but as 1-1 and 2-3 as the input on the db25 is 1 left 2 center and 3 right. If you only have DIGITAL 192s then you cannot do this without an A/D convertor, which you could get a 2 channel AES or SPDIF one that is decent for fairly cheap.

Re: C|24 Sound Problems
What would have been useful is what exact analog outputs on the 192 is connected to exactly what powered monitors or back though the C|24 monitor section (and what exact connections there) using exactly what cables and adapters. If it's a XLR to DB-25 cable is it a Digidesign/Avid part? What exact monitors?
"a bunch of XLR male connectors", type descriptions help nobody, you need to understand this much better. What exactly is connected to exactly what. And as mentioned above already if you don't have any analog outputs on your 192 you are dead in the water Are you trying to run the monitors via the c|24 monitor section or direct to monitors? All you need to debug this is staring you in the face. Go to the analog outputs on the 192s and see if you have a signal there/connect known working monitors direct there using know working cables and known working adapters. Then if you want to use the monitor section of the C|24 change the cabling to go to the c|24 monitor section. The c|24 Guide describes how to set all this up, all the rear panel connections on the C|24 and how the monitor section works. if you are having problems following that documentation then ask questions about whatever is not making sense, ideally referring to the page/section. If you need any more help you will need to describe in detail the signal flow out of your interface analog outputs all the way to the monitors. Details of the cables, adapters, and monitors and any other hardware like power amps and external monitor controllers used. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 09-12-2014 at 08:16 PM. |

Re: C|24 Sound Problems
Also, be aware that the C24 wants to see 1 and 3 for left and right(2 is Center for surround). But as already mentioned, the manual is the first stop on your trip to success(or hire a Pro Tools specialist to come in and sort it out)
