Default Question about channel strips

Hello, I'm new here. I downloaded PTF a week or so ago and have been trying to learn the in's and out's of this software.

I am attempting to dump eight recorded tracks from an analog tape machine to two track stereo into PTF.

I select a stereo track/channel strip to try this, but there is no record enable button on the strip. Not only that, but I can barely reach the fader and only after moving the window around to extremes.

I tried selecting two mono tracks and this works except that the same mix is recorded onto both channels and it is not stereo.

What am I doing wrong and what should I be selecting to do this? I'm just trying to master this eight track recording.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Great site.

To synch your tracks, record a fast pulse across all 8 about a second before your audio begins. Then you can load in the tracks, 2 at a time, and then use the pulse to align the 4 pair or 8 separate tracks. It's primitive but does work.

You cannot record more then 2 tracks simultaniouslu with ptfree.

I think your video-resulolution is too low. Try setting it to 800 X 600 pixels.

Thank you for your replies, but that is not quite the answer I was hoping for. Let me rephrase the question.

I have eight recorded tracks on my analog machine. I have mixed the tracks to where I want my levels, EQ, etc.

I am trying to record a two-track stereo master from the eight track to PTF. When I select a stereo channel strip to record to in PTF, there is no record enable on the channel strip as there is on the mono channels. if I select two mono channels that is exacly what I get. Two simultanious mono recordings instead of one stereo recording.

I'll figure out the video later. Right now I just want to be able to master in stereo L&R to PTF like I do on analog cassette.

Did that make any sense? Any further help is much obliged.

There are no stereo audio tracks in PT Free. To record a stereo signal you need to create two mono audio tracks and pan one hard left and the other hard right.

The stereo tracks you are creating are aux input tracks which are incapable of recording audio.

THANK YOU! That is the answer I was looking for.

I was experimenting a bit more with this last night and that was what I came up with. Thanks for verifying this for me.
