Default suggestions for mics....

Hello, I am completely new to Pro Tools LE. I just recently purchased the MBox and I am in the process of recording my band ( we have a melodic hardcore sound ). I am having a problem with the way my drums sound. I am using sm57's and 58's for micing the drums, but am looking for some drum mics, can anyone help me out with this problem. Thanks.-xROBERTx

i use sm57s on snare and toms, shure beta 52 on bass and 2 oktava mk012s as overheads and i love the way everything comes out. but dont forget if the drums themselves sound like crap then the recording will sound like crap. also play around with mic placement.

the keys to good drum sounds are:
Good sounding kit properly tuned
Good sounding room

Without these no amount of mics or pres will result in a great sound.

Also, since youa re on an M-box, you're limited to 2 tracks, which means youa re either using a two mic technique, very possible to do to get good drum sounds but requires knowledge and expxerimentation for placement, or you are submixing.

for the two mic theory, a good LD condensor and a kic mic or a pair of matched condensors are the prescription. I'd suggest a pair of AKG 414's or Rode NTK's. For the OH/kik approack, perhaps a 414 and a Beta 52 or sennheiser 421.
