Default USB to HDMI

What do you guys think of this little piece of equipment?

Could it be an easy way to get HD-video into my nice plasma 42 inch screen?

Can you spare a DVI port on your PC? DVI>HDMI is a cheap cable and a much simpler data path.

I think it is a strange box... An Avid Mojo uses the full bandwith of a FireWire bus for a SD stream, this box would use USB for a HDMI stream, strange... JMHO...

Aside from the obvious sync issues, does this unit have a driver which enables the USB port on the computer as a viable video output device? I presume? Is the user in charge of transcoding the video down to a data rate which can fit thru a USB 2.0 pipe? Does the unit scale up / down resolution and aspect ratio to fill a plasma?

Since the output would be from the OS - not PT, I can't see how proper sync would be maintained (read: offset)...then again, users with multiple video cards have been doing it for years.

EDIT: Further reading shows it as a desktop extender / mirror...not a standard video out...so, all of the scaling would be done on the host CPU, a la QT.

"then again, users with multiple video cards have been doing it for years."

Exactly. It works well for me, never noticed sync problems.
(Maybe because i spend 50% of the time looking at the PT edit window?) ;-)

I think this is one of those things that needs to be tested to be sure. It should work, but one never knows with these things.

I think the biggest potential problem lies in how the driver and the OS cooperates.
