Wise decision.

This is all very useful for me because with the End of Life approaching for Win 7, I'm planning a new machine--working on the specs right now and have a lot of the same questions. Trying to decide between the 9700K and the 9900K.

I'm curious about this listing in your specs:

3 Year Collect & Return warranty

Are you having this machine built?

I'm looking at two different vendors who do builds: Adamant and eCollegePC. They have similar listing in the their specs.

I also wonder about the GPU. I don't want to skimp on the CPU, motherboard, or RAM, but wonder about the GPU.

What led you to the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Windforce 8GB GPU?

In my case, I don't play video games at all. I think anything over a 1060 would be overkill.

Another builder to consider is pro-tools-pc.com (guitardom here on the DUC). Computers built specifically for and guaranteed to run Pro Tools reliably and supported incredibly well.

And no, I don't work for or am affiliated with them.

Thanks, weed. I've known about them for a while. I like their stuff but their pricing is always way out of my league.

I spec'd out a couple of different builds on https://pcpartpicker.com/ and then selected as close to the same options on Adamant and eCollege. The difference was only a couple of hundred bucks (what was around $1700 on pcpartpicker was about $1900 on either of those), plus shipping, with a 3-years parts/labor warranty.

While I probably could build my own, I have neither the time nor the setup to do so.

I'm really stuck on the GPU. I tend to keep systems a long time; I believe in maxing out RAM. I'd rather get 64 GB of RAM and a lower priced GPU than 32 GB of RAM and a GPU that costs twice as much, which I don't think I really need.

Thanks.

I'm very interested in this post because I'm toying with replacing my i7-960 @ 3.20 GHz with an i7-9700k @ 3.60 GHz, paired with a Gigabyte Aorus Master motherboard.
