PT HD 12.8 Pinwheel After Install

I just upgraded to 12.8 HD from 12.7.1 HD Under El Cap 10.11.6 to Sierra 10.12.5 and upon updating all of the plug-ins and the HD driver I tried to fire up the app and it just locks up. Application Not Responding. Looked at the activity monitor while it starts and another background app called "Pro Tools QuickTime Server" is not responding. Running an iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

I un-installed and tried again...same result. This is very frustrating.

I got the exact same issue.
I'm running Sierra 10.12.3 on a Mac Pro Trashcan.

Appreciate any suggestions ...

I'll try to update to Sierra 10.12.5 Combo.

Finally made it work.


Uninstalling PT + the Application Manager.

Installing Sierra 10.12.5, and then resetting NVRAM (due to display issue).

Installing Pro Tools 12.8 HD again.

Now all is OK over here ... so far ...

I got it to work.

I ended up going old school and running a program by Pete Gates called "PT Prefs" and it nipped it in the bud.

Essentially this program automates all of the various trashing of prefs, databases, catalogues, .plist files, and so on...

I had everything set to PT 11+ when I ran it.

This is an absolute joke that Avid makes us jump through hoops just to install I'm furious.

But hey at least we have our own support community to get through it. That's about the olny good thing they have ever done.

hi chad, we were talking about this in another thread .. always tossing pref's on an install .. and always backing up ALL your installer files so you can re-install offline if need be ..

and Pete Gates is Awesome !!! a Gold Star once again !!

PT Prefs didn't do it for me this time.

But I've used it a lot.
It's a great tool most of the times I'm having PT issues.

I have the same problem. I can't start Pro Tools 12.8 unless I delete the database prefs/catalogs. But this doesn't help me, because I need my catalogs! They're all gone now. Any ideas?
