Default Firewire Repeater - safe?

I was wondering if anyone has used an active firewire extender (firewire repeater) with a pro tools / m audio interface and if they had any problems with it. I figure it will probably work just fine, just curious.

Use an IEEE Firewire Repeater with no problems. This is with the Digi 003.
There is no brand name on it, just IEEE 1394.
It has 6 ports and a mains powered adapter.
Cant vouch for the cable type repeaters though, the ones that have a built in repeater in the cable.
