Probably not much help, but why are you using .sd2 instead of .wav?

Have you used undo record on the previous record pass by any chance? It looks like it's trying to auto-delete an older pass and failing.

Have you already tried repairing permissions and trashing prefs?

You're not trying to record to your system drive by any chance are you (either deliberately or inadvertently - check your disk allocation)?

What if you try recording to different drives does it still happen?
Open Activity Monitor when recording, is the Mac being taxed too hard somehow, and open the PT system usage window, is that look ok?

Disconnect as many peripherals as possible and try to get rid of the error and build the system back up.

Don't see any other records of that line number assertion on the DUC unfortunately. Use the Mac Troubleshooting sticky and I'd go in this order:

-Trash Digidesign Databases, Preferences and Volume folder.

-Airport, Bluetooth and Filevault should be OFF

-Disable Spotlight indexing.

-Remove Log-in Items

-Verify energy saver settings – Never Sleep and uncheck hard disk sleep

-Repair Disk Permissions

-While in Disk Utility, click your external drive, click the ‘partition’ tab, click ‘options’ at the top and verify that all your 'non-OS' drives are formatted for ‘Apple Partition Map’ if they are not, you need to clear the data off them, and reformat them using an Apple Partition Map.

-Verify all hard drives are ‘Mac OS Extended Journaled’ while in Disk Utility.

-Zap PRAM http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

-In Pro Tools go to Setup > Peripherals and Set DAE Playback Buffer to Level 4 to give more samples to the drive.

Make sure the HW Buffer is set high when recording many audio tracks.

-Window > System Usage, verify that you’re disk or cpu meters are clipping or getting too high.

-Create a new user account and log-in to it and launch Pro Tools from your Applications folder and test again.

-Pull Ram sticks and test.

-Try reinstalling the 10.5.6 Combo Update can help straighten out OS issues.

-Run Apple Hardware test and Disk Warrior.

Good luck and report back if any success or changes.

dear all,

I think I have done all above...

adjust system prefernce, trash all the pref, use different kind of file type......

IT still happened almost once a day.

I found if I turned on the AD-16 (which connected to the first accel card)
it won't pass the DIGICHECK.
but if I turn off the AD-16, just let the 192 I/O on,
It passed.

is there any possible it's the bug using 192 I/O and AD-16 at the same time?

Is there a reason you're using SD2 files? You really should convert the session to WAV or AIF, as SD2 is no longer truly supported and may be the cause of these problems.

Really? if it's "No longer Truly Supported", Digi should remove it from the "NEW SESSION" Dialog in the next release, and issue a "Technical Alert"

Really? This has been a long, long time in the making. I dont think that it really constitutes any bulletins
SD2 has been being phased out ever since OS9 due to resource forks embedded in the file , All versions of PT that have been running OSX have by default been using WAV as the primary file type
Not to mention that Wav is a true cross platform file type

This is exactly why SD2 files must be compressed prior to uploading to FTP
the FTP protocol will strip all resource forks

We didn't remove it from the new session dialog, as there are still customers that may have an edge case need to use it, however if you choose SDII in the new session parameters, you'll get this message:

BWF (.WAV) is the recommended file format for optimum cross platform interoperability. The SDII file format is not supported with:
- Pro Tools systems running on Windows XP
- Sample rates higher than 48k
- Elastic Audio processing

In addition, there was a warning of this nature going back to the What's New in 7.0 Read Me.

So, while we don't specifically state 'we no longer support this format' (because, technically, we still do) it should be readily evident that there is no need to use SDII except in possibly some very specific circumstances, of which I can't really think of a good example off the top of my head.

In other words - don't use it unless you have a good reason to.
