Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI

I've searched for some tips regarding this error message, but I don't really understand what it means.

I just installed Pro Tools 2018.1 on my MacBook Pro (MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3), and I am trying to set up my Yamaha Reface DX synth as a MIDI controller (I have been using this on my Windows 7 PC with Pro Tools 12, without any problems). I added it under Peripherals as HUI, chose Reface DX under "receive from" and "send to", and Reface DX is checked under MIDI Input Devices.

I get the "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI" error message, and nothing happens when I press the keys (though the speakers on the synth stop playing once it's connected, which hasn't happened before, I assume that's because it recognizes that it's being used as a MIDI controller).

Any ideas?

hi, do you have 2 midi cables plugged in or just one ???

I am using a USB cable (this is what I've been using on my PC as well).

The Reface DX isn't a HUI controller. HUI controllers are generally mixers. Turn all that off in Peripherals.

You just need to set it as a MIDI input device.

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed it from peripherals, but it still doesn't work. Also, I've been using it on my Windows 7 PC with no problems, and it was set up in peripherals there(?).
Tried using it in GarageBand, and it worked immediately, didn't need to set up anything...

Setup>MIDI>MIDI Input Devices
Setup>MIDI>MIDI Input Filters

OK USB understood, just curious ... are there any drivers for it that need to be or can be loaded ?? and i have read where you say it works fine with GB ..

how does it look in AMS ??

I'm not aware of any downloadable drivers, and it worked fine in Pro Tools on Windows and GarageBand on my MacBook without installing anything...
I don't really know what the settings in AMS do, but I am attaching a screenshot.
