Default Odd video behavior

I'm working on an intro and ending score for a short documentary video. For some reason, the video gets out of sync if I try to start it anywhere but the beginning. If I try to start it anywhere down the timeline, it seems to jump to near the end. The audio is right, but the video isn't. The still **** you see when moving the cursor in the timeline is right, but when I hit play, the video I see is several seconds down the timeline. I can't line up the end theme properly if I can't get the video to respond properly. I've tried re-importing it and even created a new session and imported the session tracks. Same thing. Rebooting changed nothing. It's the only video session I have that behaves this way. Any ideas of what might cause this or how I can correct it? Thanks.

What codec is your video? h.264 is not a good one.

I'll have to check. I can't recall, and I'm not in my studio at the moment.

I've seen this exact behavior with H.264s coming from FCPX. Look at Drew's link. If you're on PT11 or PT12, try requesting Apple ProRes Proxy, or DNxHD from the video editor.

It looks like the is a QT MP4 - AVC, which I guess is H.264?

I'm working on Win-10 PT 12.7. What codec(s) do you all recommend I request from the video editor to send me? I believe she's using Final Cut Pro, so I assume she has several codec options.

Will either of those work on my Win-10 system? I'm on PT 12.7

Sorry, forgot you were on Windows. I don't know. Probably DNxHD. You could run the demo of Adobe Media Encoder and remux a video from AVC to DNxHD as a test.

Also, I've had good luck with H.264s that were keyframed on every frame. But your video editor would have to know how to do that.

Thanks for this info. I wasn't sure if codecs could be converted or not or what the effect might be. I'll try that the Adobe ME and see if that works.

The odd thing is, I have other videos I worked on in the AVC format and had no issues whatsoever, so I'm not sure what's different about this one. I wonder if some small thing got corrupted in transit through the Dropbox.

I know the AVID sheet says your mileage may vary with H.264. Up til now, my mileage has been fine.

Thanks again for the info.
