LtRt AAX plugin
I need to get one. Is Neyrinck still the best option?

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
Really sure you need LtRt rather than LoRo? Most people will take Stereo rather than matrix as so few people need matrix these days - it was a solution to get around lack of discreet surround which has gone away now.

+1. Don't remember last three years delivering anything but LoRo.

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
I think, its always better to make a matrix compatible downmix, because it sounds better on only Stereo too!
The difference from a automatic downmix from LoRo to matrix compatibe was only, that the Surround Channels are inverted mixed to L and R!? |

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
Using Minnetonka SurCode Pro Logic II here. It can do encode/decode cycle to check how the decode sounds.
EDIT: It looks like the Neyrinck can do real-time encode/decode as well. I'm not sure why I thought it couldn't.

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
I think the LoRo sounds much better compared to an LtRt in stereo.

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
I agree, I like the sound of LoRo better than LtRt. I can't wait for LtRt to go fully extinct. But that being said I still have to deliver LtRt all the time for film and TV, it's definitely not a dead deliverable yet.
Your two best bets are Minnetonka's Surcode, or Neyrinks SoundCode. (Check the product name on the websites and make sure you are looking at the correct one for Dolby Pro Logic II LtRt). I use Surcode and it works great. It allows you to monitor encoded or decoded or passthrough. I'm sure the Neyrink version works great as well and does the same. |

Re: LtRt AAX plugin
Hi!
And why LoRo? Theoretical, if Surrounds mixed inverted to the Stereodownmix, you have a more diffuse sound with the signals.Until 10 years or so, this was standard, sometimes the 5.1 downmix to stereo was manually improved and this allow maximum quality. In the most cases today, its no longer carried out and many downmix sound bad! |

Good point. Well, the delivery specs definitely states LtRt. This is for a documentary but it is not going straight to the broadcaster. Instead, it goes to one of those media agencies that sells media worldwide. I'll see if I can email them and check whether they do want LtRt for a specific reason or see if they can see the benefits of a LoRo. |
