Default aux tracks for loops?

just wondering. Say you want to import some acid loops (already mixed to a wave file)If you choose import audio it creates a new track and does that track have to be a regular track or can it be an aux track? I mean you are not going to record on it or overdub so do you have to use up a regular track ? Can you create a stereo aux track and import the wav file to that?

It must be a regular track.

No. Your WAV file is considered audio and can only be imported into an audio track. (See Chapter 12 of the Pro Tools Reference Guide).
If, on the other hand, you wanted to import your WAV file into a soft sampler the output from that sampler could be routed into an AUX track from your "other" soundcard.

AUX tracks have many other uses such as:
1) Processing several other tracks with a single processor.
2) Allowing external devices (processors, instruments, etc.) to be input into the PTLE mixer.

There are many other uses for AUX tracks. (See Chapter 19: Basic Mixing of the Pro Tools Reference Guide, page 273). These are just two examples.
