Default any advice on studio monitors?

Hey all,
I'm about to go out and buy a pair of powered studio monitors. I've allocated about $400-$600 for the pair (I know that isn't much). Can anyone recommend a brand that is of decent quality at that price? I just checked out some Yamaha MSP 5's at $224 apiece. They didn't seem too bad to me, but I'm inexperienced. Any words?

Thanks again,
Ponecollector...

Check out the KRK V6's. I have the V8's which are a little more expensive, but I just love the KRK sound!

I've never heard the V6's, but I have the V8's and am really happy with them. They tend to be a little on the bright side, but I've been able to mix very well on them, and they're a joy to listen to.

For a lot more money (if you can afford them) the M&K speakers are really amazing. We equipped the Surroung room with the complete 5.1 kit (with the subwoofer and bass management etc. etc) WOW! I also just purchased an extra pair for my main music studio. The y really sounf fantastic!

Sorry, but the 1030s are better. Out of the price range anyway.

The guy said he had $4-600 to spend...

1031's are a gazillion times over his budget...
