Default Silicon Graphics Flat Panel Monitor

Has anyone had any experience with the 17" superwide Silicon Graphics Flat Panel LCD Monitor and a Mac (9600)?

I really wanted to buy one, but the NYC office never got back to me on where to find one, so I kind of gave up for the time being (I need to see it to know if I want). But it does look like a great alternative for people w.o the $$ or the new MP G4 for the Cinema Display... has anyone seen it and used it?

I haven't used one, but I have seen one. Pretty cool. The latest MacWarehouse catalog has one on pg 49. Listed at $2329.95

Call 1-888-SGI-7373... they are running a special direct from SGI for $1400 including a PCI card for the Mac.

Thanks uno1234

The only thing that scares me about that is "PCI card". I can just picture (pardon the pun) conflicts especially if it's a bus-master card.

Apparently the PCI card is really good, and if you don't own an AGP G4, you're in the clear. I have a PCI G4, and Formac, who makes the card, says they'll give me an upgrade price on the new AGP version coming out if I decide to upgrade my computer.

But I'm wondering how it looks, esp. compared to apple flat panels, which are so beautiful.

I have been using two SGI 1600sw panels for almost a year and they are absolutely fantastic. The $1495 deal mentioned earlier is a GREAT deal because it includes the Proformance 3 PCI with TFT daughterboard. I've extended my cables to 25' each and the picture is stunning. The pixels are small but VERY sharp and the response is excellent. It has the same resolution as the Cinema display (1600x1024) but is 17.3 inches diagonally instead of 22". Did I mention I'm using TWO on a 9600/350(G3/400)

You should also be aware that SGI Flat Panel LCD also has an option called a multi link adapter which alows it to be used with virtually any video card, including the AGP card that comes standard in G4 computers.

Hey ripple FX,
I have been using a 21 inch for years.
Do you think i would feel cramped with only ONE of these?
