Default Vocal Effect I can\'t figure out how to do

Hi everyone

there's an effect that out there that I've heard dozens of times that I can't figure out how to do. I like to call this effect the poltrageist effect. It sounds to me like it's a combination of a delay and reverb, but the effect happens before anyone even speaks... here are some examples

2pac - Dear Mr president
THE effect happens at 3:20 and ends at 3:25

The Simpsons: Homer 3
The effect occurs at 1:42 when Homer is talking

If you can help me out with this, i would GREATLY appreciate it.

I'm using Pro Tools 7.3, and I have the factory plugins. How can this be done using Pro Tools?

Thanks in advance

Jack

The Simpson piece has two or three different effects in it. The one I think you're referring to is actually pretty simple to do. Just isolate the section in question (perhaps on another track) and flip it end for end (e.g. with 'reverse' in AudioSuite). While that section is backwards apply an appropriate echo or other effect to it. When done, reverse it back. The trailing of the echo when the section is reversed, will precede the track when played forward. There's lot's of interesting effects you can create with this, so just experiment to find the right sound for you.

There may be plug-ins that can do at least some of this for you, but the sound of the effect may be limited in some way.

Yep, sounds like you're looking for a reverse echo effect, also called reverse reverb or sometimes "preverb." Follow what Mr. Blue suggested and you'll see how it works. When you're applying the effect with AudioSuite remember to leave extra time for the echo/verb/whatever to decay completely.
