Yeah, it sounds like you're seeing the DSP Cache problems. I'm still having issues in 8.0.4, with either sessions opening up with inactive plugins because lack of resources (even though the session opened fine before) or strange high pitched tones coming from a Revibe channel. To deactivate DSP Cache, open the System Usage window, and look for a small triangle above and to the right of one of your cards (on our system it ends up on the bottom card).

Other times its just one track or aux, and if I deactivate and reactivate the plug-ins on that track it'll wake up. Recently after doing this, the automation behavior on that track was very screwy. Scary stuff, and a restart fixed it. A restart always fixes it.

The third weirdness is that I'll get a message before the session open that certain plug-ins (usually Revibe) will be deactivated. Again, a restart (or at least a re-launch) is required.

Does the "DSP Cache" setting still exist in 8.1? If so, can someone explain where to find it?

Ah, thanks. I looked for it twice there and missed it. I'll try running without it enabled for a while and see what happens. It would be great if that solves it.

I'm curious - is this still a problem in ProTools 9?

I haven't had this yet with PT9 , but instead the whole sound disappeared after solo, some time ago.

It just happened yesterday on 9.0.2.

No tracks played audio. Pre-Fader metering, nothing Soloed. Closing and re-opening the session didn't fix it. A restart did.

These issues usually happen after I've been switching between projects three or four times. I always let sessions fully close and wait a few moments before launching a new one.

I feel like it's a DSP Cache issue. I had the DSP Cache ON since upgrading to 9. Now I'll try it off for a while.

Almost exactly what we're seeing. It's happening less with Pro Tools 9 these days though. It usually happens after switching between a few big mixing sessions. Sometimes it stops outputting audio completely, but more often we get a high ringing sound from one of the Revibe plugins in the session.

It happens in 8.1.1 too. Either it all goes away, or one side goes away.

Brand new system too, 10.6.6, 8.1.1 HD|3. Also happens on my HD|6 which is also 10.6.6 and 8.1.1

Never had the ReVibe ring though.

Exactly the same here -- Revibe is often in what seems like a full-scale feedback loop. Not always, but often. And sometimes Reverb One does the same thing.

I haven't had this issue since I turned off the DSP Cache about a week ago, but I also haven't been switching sessions a whole lot.
