Default Reference Guide PDF and Paper - the same?

Hey everyone,

First post...

Is the reference guide for PT8 in pdf format (all pages 1112) on my HD installation the same as the $29.99 manual for PT 8 you can purchase from the store? I was thinking of having it printed-out but if the purchase manual is the same they have printed it for about $0.03 a page - I don't think I can do that well on my own.

Thanks.

My printed manual has 1092 pages and the intro is 18 pages and there is a single page at the end. Adds up to 1112 pages. So I would say yes. You will never print it for 29.99. Having a copy center print it in color will probably be around a 100.00 or more.

I only ever use the pdf on screen nowadays because of its search speed. I purchased the manual for 7.4 when I started out because I could refer to it when I was away from the computer, although some people believe that the manual's only useful if you're sitting in front of the screen. But I found it useful just picking sections out at random and pre-learning if you like.
I assumed it came with colour illustrations (just because the pdf is) and was slightly miffed when I discovered it was b&w so I considered having it printed at work but couldn't justify printing over 1000 pages. Worth the purchase price (IMO) if you're starting out.

The trouble is that there are so many features in Pro Tools that not all of the sections apply to every user.

So I believe that for the average person the PDF is perfect - you can print what you want, or just use it on screen. Working with PDF on a mac is such a doddle anyway why print!

Unfortunately, Digi sticks it to you with shipping costs...otherwise it would be a no-brainer to buy the manual...

The prices are set by UPS unfortunately... I don't think they're unreasonable, but maybe you don't want it sent by a courier? You can select normal postage instead which is cheaper.

I stand corrected...I swear some time ago I thought about ordering a previous manual and the shipping cost was roughly a third of the text...8 bucks for fedex is not as extreme...
