PT III /w Direct I/O?
I just got a PT III PCI sytem with 2 888s and 2 DSP farms. I've been using an AMIII/PT 5.0LE and I'd like to know if anyone has any tips on the best way to utilize the new system. I know I get 16 tracks with DAE using the Disk I/O, but will I get more tracks using Logic with Direct I/O? Will that still utilize the DSP farms? Any info appreciated!

Re: PT III /w Direct I/O?
Using DirectI/O will use the card as a basic 8 channel in/out device. It won't take advantage of the on-board SCSI, so it will depend on the performance of the host system to determine how many disk tracks you can get. Also, it doesn't do anything with the DSP farm cards. You would be relying on the host computer for any DSP plug-ins. If you have a fast machine with a high performance SCSI card, you will get good results using the card with Direct I/O - but remember that the record monitor latency will be greater since you are using the host computer for processing instead of TDM. Hope this answers your question.
