Default best system performance

hi everyone,

i was just wondering what makes protools most powerful as settings go. i read somewhere that enabling dma helps, but i have no clue how...anybody know what makes protools run the best?
heres my setup:

DELL Dimension 4500
1.8ghz Pentium IV (400 mhz system bus)
40 GB Hard Drive
512 MB. RAM
Audiomedia III card

Hello,

You probably already have DMA enabled. Newer computers usually do.

Look at the website http://www.musicxp.net. It will give you some good suggestions and directions for completing them.

Adding another hardrive to your system would help you a bit..

yeah, get a Western Digital with 8Mb cache for Audio.

your system should be fine. Just be sure to go into the bios and disable everything you don't need.

As a rule of thumb, if you don't have something plugged, jacked, or socketed into it... disable it. If you have no idea what it is don't touch it. Consult with digi compatability documents or use www.askjeeves.com to find out what it is.

If you can make sure PCI Parity is enabled.

Be sure to disable your AC'97 audio before installing windows, that thing will only give you headache.

Do the same for any on-board video.

Otherwise, if you put 2k on that box you'll be humming. Too bad you won't be
