Control 24 as a controller surface

Hello, everyone,
looking for some help here,
I've searched but have not seen any updated info on this , but i'm sure it has been ask a lot seeing many still own a original control 24.
Looking to do a total upgrade for someone and want to know if the control 24 can be used at least as a controller with todays os and software like Cubase , reason etc,,,,,

if more , what more can it be used for
this client has one thats barely been used at all , still has the plastic on it
along with a full hd system
i think he might want to abandon Protools all together so i just want to know what are the options
