Major crashes here. Seemed to work yesterday for a few hours. Today PT crashes on start up every time within seconds. Tried to reinstall version 12.0 and 12.3 but same problems. Version 11 runs well. Tried with removing all plugins, but no luck.

I decided to just go for it. I did a full backup first and then just upgraded bc I have way too much stuff I simply dont want to reinstall or recover etc. My PT seems to have come up ok but I noticed a few weird things. Im getting errors about the avid core audio not being compatible but I was able to pull up a session and then map the outputs to my QU-32 ok. It played. What I noticed was that not long after its started to distort really badly. This happened in ,my previous OS if i left the session running for many many hours and shutting and reopening fixed that. I dont know if its a one off but something to watch. Currently Im not terribly concerned and I may at some point flatten and reinstall but I would rather not do that. Of course I should read the manual on time machine and see if it will drop back my apps and favorites for ff etc. But Im not good with manuals... :) Ill keep ya posted on my experiences.

I'm on ElCapitan running Pro Tools 12.3 HD.

It's pretty much the same as 11 HD.
Maybe a little smoother ...

But HEAT is a major kick.
Really makes a difference,
so yes, this is a nice upgrade, for me at least ...

The extra Pro Plugins makes it a good package.

Still, the upgrade price is way too high,
but that's the other story, the one about greed and ignorance ...

Hey Jan, long time, hope all is well...

We had a slight mishap and had to replace our iMac with the newest generation one, which forced me to El Capitan with PT HD 12.2.1. Was a nightmare. Video engine constantly crashed, GUI errors.

Switched to 12.3 on release day and only one issue since, which can be repeated upon import of a single specific audio file, so I guess it's something with that file. Other than that, a few times the video engine needed re-initialization, but never "crashed" or took the whole application with it.

All in all I am confident having clients in for final mix. Runs stable enough for my purposes.

Best,

Markus

12.3 / El Capitan 10.11 here. It's slow as hell and suffering under load. I'm hoping things get better or I'll be moving back down the OS ladder.

12.3 HD and El Cap 10.11.1 and all seems pretty stable. No more or no fewer issues than with 11.3.2. It may be a little faster but I started from the ground up. There could also be a bit fewer CPU errors at low buffers but maybe it's just me.

The playback curser doesn't seem as smooth to me than 11 though...especially when zooming in.

Responses have varied greatly.

I wonder if that's indicative of 3rd party apps and drivers which need to catch up or if it's directly related to the OS and PT12. My guess is that it's a little of each. Time will tell.

Keep reporting. Many will follow this with interest.

I just rolled back to 10.10.5. I was just having so many problems though few seemed to be Pro Tools. My system would hang every time I tried to reboot. That was annoying and no real answers from the wankers at apple. Many folks said flatten and start over but that wasnt really an option. The one thing that may be Avid related was with the avid core audio drivers and the fact that none of my previously working midi daw control would work. I think that was related to the OS more than anything but it worked then it didnt. I couldnt get my new novation launchkey to work. So since I smartly took a backup prior I just decided to roll back to my previous setup and I didnt really lose anything. Perhaps Ill flatten one day though really there isnt much reason for me to go to El Capitan so maybe ill save that for a system upgrade. YMMV.
