+3 for Super Duper!

There's a free version on their website which does everything just fine. I used it when I changed the HDD in my old MacBook. No dramas.

Synchronize! Pro

Qdea.com has by far the absolute best Back Up / synchronization / bootable clone - back up utility by far

but it's $99

it has many many functions that the free apps can't do

I've had issues with Disk utility before and lost my clones.

I've used Carbon Copy for 6 years and it has always been solid.

I've only used it to create images though for backup purposes. Like if I installed the PT9.02 update and realized that when they changed the Grid, it was impossible to work, so I went back to PT9.0 image.

Heard good things about SuperDuper though.
