Default nudge? How do you do it?

I am reading the pro tools keyboard shortcut pdf file and trying to find out how to nudge a region. It says +/- does the trick but these do nothing for me. I am on a Powerbook. Could that have anything to do with it?

You have to select the region you want to to nudge first. Also if your nudge value is set very low like 1 sample you'll probably have to nudge a few times to notice a difference depending on the material.

If I recall the +/- as nudge only works from the 10-key pad, which laptops don't have. You may be able to fake it by holding down the fn key and using, for example, the ?/ key as the + and the ;: as the - ( the smaller numbers to the bottom right hand corner of the u-i-o and j-k-l and <->-? keys). There are strange interactions with the option and command keys when using the fn key, sometimes requiring the option or command to be pressed before the fn key or nothing works, or a different command is invoked. It's almost worth getting an external usb keyboard if you are going to be doing tons of editing.

Here's what I remember

fn +/- nudges the selection (someone else pointed out that selecting properly is important)
option fn +/_ extends the in point of the selection
shift fn +/_ moves the selection point
option command fn+/_ changes the nudge value (toggles through various settings)
command fn +/_ extends the out point of the selection

As I said before it actually does matter the order of the keys selected, i.e. pressing fn option command won't work like option command fn. The fn key is the one that the order matters, option and command are reversible. All the above key commands are for a laptop where the "+" is also labeled "?" and "/" and is directly to the left of the shift key on the right side of the keyboard.

Good luck,

D
