Default Protools does not want to quit

G 5 4 GIG RAM Mac O S 10.4.11, P T V 7.4.4, D- Comand 24 fader 1) 192 and 2) 888{24, a Glyph 103 3 bay hot swap FW 400 loaded with 3 250 G drives.
we have 4 PT edit bays configured like this and all of the systems have done this at some point.

after session is over we close session. this works fine and session is saved but when we are back to the desktop and go under PT menu and quit protools it vapor locks the mac. it will just pinwheel until you force a shut down by holding the power button for 3 secs Has any one else seen this. It can't be good for the Mac to have to force a shut down like that?

Have you tried trashing prefs yet? What about testing from a new admin account?

Thanks 4 the help,

Yes I did throw away the digi prefs, and it will fix it temp but it will happen again. When it is doing it, it happens to the user and the admin accounts.

Hi,

I would go for a re-install of pro tools! there's 2 options? one is safe uninstall and the other is clean uninstall. try the safe uninstall first, as this can be done in only a few minutes and keeps all non PT files and plugins etc. trash all the prefs first, then uninstall, then re-boot the mac and install PT again. PT 7.4 is a complete installer so needs no previous install.

To be safe back-up all your Pro tools related folders to another drive, so you can revert back to them if needed.

troubleshooting thread is here, it details all you need to know...
