Well, Firewire is backwards compatible and Focusrite says this adapter works fine. My preferred method would be a bilingual cable like this, but I can't say for certain that it would would work with the saffire.

wow thats great, I was trying to find the specs on the computer I have now to scrap out the part but I cant locate the card model. It'll work out tho.
I do have a question about weather or not I need a sound card if all my audio is coming from the fire wire to interface... I dont see why I would but I am a noob with this

Your firewire audio interface is your sound card for Pro Tools. And for system sounds, you use the Realtek soundcard that's built into the motherboard.

Thats close to what I was beginning to think, no sound card on my purchase order so I would believe he understood, what a relief, starting to get up there in price...
