Well, Firewire is backwards compatible and Focusrite says this adapter works fine. My preferred method would be a bilingual cable like this, but I can't say for certain that it would would work with the saffire.

wow thats great, I was trying to find the specs on the computer I have now to scrap out the part but I cant locate the card model. It'll work out tho.
I do have a question about weather or not I need a sound card if all my audio is coming from the fire wire to interface... I dont see why I would but I am a noob with this |

Your firewire audio interface is your sound card for Pro Tools. And for system sounds, you use the Realtek soundcard that's built into the motherboard.

Thats close to what I was beginning to think, no sound card on my purchase order so I would believe he understood, what a relief, starting to get up there in price...
