Digidesign vs Motu

When I upgraded from OS 8.1 to OS 8.6 a problem
occured: If I don´t choose "Sound out - Digidesign",
when launching Pro Tools, or "Sound out - MAS" before launching Digital Performer, MAS crashes and
I have to restart. That is, I always have to launch
DP first - to get the MAS-symbol in soundcontrol. And
no other (audio-)app than DP work with MAS, as it
used to do on OS 8.1.
Why?
(G3 - Mac OS 8.6 - Audiomedia III - PT 4.1.1 -
DP 2.7.1 - Digi INIT 3.4.1 - Digi Sound Drivers 1.4.2 -
MOTU 2.4.1)
