Default Re: Wireless External Storage for Virtual Instruments?

I see, I get it now.

I just finished reading the update user manual from Samsung. They don't really mention if the update works through a USB 3 connection.

They said ISO files may be used only via DOS using a bootable CD/DVD so I guess there's no putting it on a USB stick.

Do you think it would be possible to update it if it's booted as an external drive using a USB connection?

There are no firmware updates that I am aware of for the T3. So you are worrying about stuff now that does not matter. Normal Samsung SSD firmware updates just run in-situ on the computer. Download the file and double click it. You are looking at something else/a more complex update.

You're right. I confused the 840 with the 840 EVO.

So that means I'd just use the drive normally without worrying about firmware updates right?

That update did concern the 840 and 840 Pro drives though. I guess that's an extra reason to stick with the T3 instead of the 850 Pro.

Just stop worrying, order a T3, start using it, check periodically for Firmware updates. I just wanted to make sure you know to do that/where to look.

Which brings me to my second question: Is anyone using a wireless system to do it? If so, what would you recommend? Would an Apple Time Capsule do the trick?

Thanks

You could always use a USB hub but why not use those Thunderbolt ports on your MacPro?

That's what I was thinking about. I'll either get a good SSD or the LaCie thunderbolt SSD for the extra speed (and one less USB connection). I don't even use a thunderbolt port for the screen, I plug it directly through the HDMI port.

I'm now using a Synology nas diskstation Ds916+, 4 slots HDD/SSD to store all large files, including Sound Libraries & Virtual Instruments.

How's that working out? I'm considering a LaCie Thunderbolt SSD. Fast, high quality storage with Thunderbolt at a very good price.
