Default DVD back up question

Just bought a LaCie d2 DVD+/-RW, using Toast Lite 5.2.2 that came with the device. With, and I quote what's on the cover 'Verbatim DataLifePlus Photo Printable DVD-R 8*Certified'. Never had a problem with this computer before, it's a 1 trick box. The sessions I'm backing up are verifying ok, but when I try to transfer back to desktop some of the sessions are hacked to pieces. Some files are just unreadable of the disc. Then after trying to take them off disk the computer locks into thought mode. Anybody have any idea of what's going on here. What kind of DVDs is everyone else using, I know other studios with the same brand of DVDs with no probs,(never checked what kind of burner they are using though).

rubberlugs ,
That LaCie is "+ and - " compatible..right ? And your media is DVD-R 8*Certified'..
The only thing I can think of is..maybe the currently installed firmware in the writer isn't yet qualified with X8 media. Try a X4 only blank. Or search the LaCie FAQ, to see what other users experiences are...

happy tooling,

Just for your information, Ive always used DVD+ 8x's, without a problem. From what I read, the + is more accurate...

But, it might not be anything to do wit media at all...

But, those links that Sir Lemix posted are good info.

Just come of the phone with music village who sold us the device. He reckons that +/- wouldn't make a difference. He also reckons that the device definately works with the apple stock of DVDs, but then he's a retailer and this stock costs £25 per 5, so I don't know if he's sincere or trying to flog his most expensive brand. I'm livid, I've bought nothing more than a coaster machine and feel like I've been left to do the R+D for LaCie to find the best brand of DVDs for them. They appear to have washed their hands of the affair. The only thing their website FAQ deals with is 'how high can I stack them'.

I've done the 8 burn, 6 burn, 4 burn and 2 burn. I think I'll leave it for today and go to the other side of the building to look for my sense of humour before I end up doing the bonfire burn out the back.

Appears to be a brand thing. That particular DVD writer doesn't seem to like verbatim. Works ok with HHB at £8 a pop and seems to work ok with Datawrite reds which I've yet to cost.
