Default Beat Detective problem

I hope I'm not posting this twice but I posted it about 2 hours ago and checked back and I don't see it so I must have not ? Anyway, I can't get beat detective to work for me in Pt's 9. I've watched all the Youtube videos and I've read the reference manual and haven't found why. When I select, (I.E.), scan or highlight, a region and click Beat Detective I get a popup that says, "This operation requires selected regions"! Excuse me but isn't scanning or highlighting a region the same as selecting it? Because of this I've been using Event-quantize to make things stay with the click but it sometimes works and other times not, Lately it has refused to work at all. My tracks are all tick based and I, for the most part stay in absolute or spot when I'm tracking. I am using the Focusrite 2i4 which has the 0 latency thing and I select none in the Hardware latency box. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I lack the patience at my age to go back to cutting and pasting each note! Thanks.

Hi,

You have to select the region and the timeline together? BD needs to know a timeline position to be able to work.

First thing you do when opening BD (after selecting the region and timeline together) is define the timeline position by clicking on
"Capture selection" in the BD window. If you don't do this you get error messages like.. "This operation will move clips to a new location" etc.

Chris

Thanks Chrisdee for helping me out. I mean no disrespect to the genius that composed the reference manual but he or she might have made things a little less hard to understand had they paid more attention to English comprehension! I also have a bit of a problem with having to jump around from one section to another, one page to another or one manual to another just to find an answer to my questions! Oh well. Just me I guess!

Not just you Terry! I get no love from BD at all. Try as I may, watched plenty of videos, and somehow, it still usually escapes me Mostly, my drum editing is done manually. Its tedious as can be, but the results are all that matters

I agree albee. I'm glad I'm not alone on this. Since chrisdee has explained the BD procedure to me I'll definitely try it but when I use the EVENT-Quantize ap., as long as I click on the correct timing correction boxes, it works for me. However, like I said lately it seems that it doesn't want to work at all. Thanks.

I remember learning BD from a video Russ did over at PTE. Worth a look if you haven't seen it.

It was Russ' video on "Ninja Drum Editing" that taught me how to do it manually
