ERROR WHILE RECORDING 8 TRACKS AT ONCE G4 933/001

I am running a g4 933 on OS 10.6.2. I have 896 megs of ram. I am running a digi 001. Pro Tools version 6.1 or 6.0.1 what ever the first update was I am not very sure. I am trying to record 8 tracks at once. My session is as follows: 8 mono tracks 2 aux tracks and 1 master track. 2 plugins on one channel. Every 3 or 4 takes abou 2 to 3 min into recording I get an error (Increase buffer size). I was wondering if updating to OS 10.3 Panther would help. If that won't help am I out of luck, or would going back to 9.2 help. I am also wondering if updating to a 002 rack would help or do I need to bo and buy a full on tdm mix 24 system to record 8 tracks at once.

These Mac guys have too much money! 8 tracks, his G4 is pooped and he thinks he may need to go up to a TDM system and he doesn't seem to be flinching too much. <sigh>

An HD system on the G5 should get you slightly better performance.

did you try increasing your buffer? um, do you have an external audio drive? the 002r takes up more cpu than an 001. no need for a tdm. maybe a pc. I've got an 002r runnig on a $2000 (canadian), so about 1400 american, with another 8 channels through an optical mic pre, and I run them all. NO problems. good luck!

Windows 98SE or Windows XP never has worked up to par on a G4....
