That's what mine does... What is your system doing? Did this change when you upgraded to PTLE8 (I'm still on 7.4)

I believe there is a preference for this in Setup > Preferences > MIDI
|

Yeah, I'm on 8. 7.4 defaults to notes view, but 8 defaults to regions view. I checked the MIDI prefs last night and didn't see anything regarding this. I swear it wasn't there, but I will check again.
