thanks for postin' recordingguy. was that 110 DVERBS that you got out of your box?? also, does that MOBO allow you to overclock?? thank again...mykhal

DIGI, could we get a sticky for this thread so we can use it as the main CORE2 DUO build thread?? thanks
Yes 110 D-verbs. Digi 002R... the MB does allow you to overclock and has very good cooling but I haven't tried to because the current bios it shipped with limmets to 333mhz but I have read that flashing the bios lets you go higher. Probaly not the best overclocking board but runs very solid out of the box.

Hello. I've been a loooooong time DUC stalker. This will be my first "real" post. So I figured it was time to contribute to the forum. Over the weekend I built this system for my 002:

P5B-E motherboard
E6300 cpu
1gb ocz ddr2 5400 memory
sata 250gb 16mb cache hard drive (haven't ordered the 2nd one yet)
500w power supply in case

With this setup, I was able to get 32 tracks + 96 reverbs. Keep in mind this is with one hard drive and no XP tweaks. I think this is VERY good considering one drive. In the next week or so I will get another 1gb of memory and another 250gb hard drive. These CPUs are better than I realized. I've always been an AMD supporter. My last 3 builds were AMD (last one being amd athlon 64 3000). This entire system so far has cost me around $700. So I figure another $180 for the drive and memory would put me at $880-$900. Well worth it to me!

Now off to watch the super bowl....

Yeah, I really only wanted to spend a total of $700 on a new pc. But it's gonna end up around $900 I knew it would be a little more than I wanted to spend, so I had to cut a corner or 2 somewhere! Even with the lowest core 2 duo, I knew I would get better performance than the AMD. So I went with this setup. Once the extreme processors come down in price and protools is compatible with those, I'll upgrade at that point. The 96 verb count is plenty power for me. Once I get the drive and the memory I should be set for quite a while. I'm still amazed I got that many verbs with one hard drive and a gb of memory.

Hey all,

I'm glad to have found this thread and seen the smokin' results thus far with these processors. After having buried myself in the AMD world and almost gone the Dual Opteron 270 route, just in the nick of time - I might add, I've opted for the following and am just finalizing the specs with my builder. This rig is a couple hundred bucks less than the AMD 270 system I was planning on and looks to be quite the screamer . Haven't seen anyone using an MBox. Hope I'm okay with that. Any thoughts always welcome.

great choices on the E6600 and mobo, IMHO!! the Asus P5W DH Deluxe (975X Chipset) got GREAT reviews for the CORE2 DUO in CPU magazine in the 9/06 issue. i've made the same choices thus far for my proc and mobo. hopefully my build will be happenin' by march or april at the latest. don't forget to come back and post your D-VERB results!!!
