Default New Macbook comes with one usb port

http://www.youredm.com/2015/03/09/yo...e-new-macbook/

The new macbook only comes with 1 usb port that you also need to charge the computer with. The same approach with the last model, except everything was smouldered in so you had to upgrade everything from the start and get applecare or else pay out the ass for them to repair it because they're the only ones who can. This time you just need to buy their adapters.

I dont even think it would be possible to use it for music anymore. I need the 2 ports, both of em have full hubs connected. Lucky mines still new but I think it'll be the last macbook I buy if that turns out to be the case.

There's the MacBook Pro still available. That's the one you want to be using with PT anyway

Read the article and went to the Apple site. From what I can see this is a totally new model that's not replacing the current line. I don't seriously think Apple is going to do away with the MacBook Pro line any time soon.

I think OP is talking about "the new air" (as in the current air models are sold out and then discontinued, thus old macbook line would be like air and there would only be two models, "new air" and the current pro)

...OR (god forbid) the current air becomes a future pro and the current pro is discontinued

That could be as the article linked to and Apple's own site make no mention if this is a replacement for the old Air.

If that happens there goes readily portable recording setups.

DJs with this system will be required to buy separate dongles to accommodate their various equipment. Also, without an USB-A port, all existing flash drives and DJ tools will need an extra adapter. Apple’s USB-C dongle, which they price at just under $80, adapts the single port into another USB-C, an HDMI port, and an USB 3.0 for other devices.
Not just DJs... EVERYBODY who buys this computer will need to buy an expensive adapter to use any external anything. Pretty shrewd of Apple to put USB ports behind an $80 paywall. By way of comparison, my phone can use USB devices, but with a $5 adapter. Apparently my phone has as powerful a processor as the cheapest new macbook, too

Nobody doing audio anything should be interested in buying the new MacBook.

It is a compact low-end laptop for causal work. The kind of thing you would buy if traveling a lot and wanting to do email and standard office stuff etc. It is low-end and intended to slot beneath the MacBook Air range. It uses the Intel Core-M series of processors that significantly trade-off compute power for heat dissipation/size. It has a single USB 3 (not 3.1, big difference there) and no Thunderbolt and stupidly no magsafe power port. It has a nice screen, folks lured in by the screen specs may well be dissapointed by the overall performance and other limitations.

The 13" MacBook Pro has been updated to include the new MacBook's touch pad, the lack of actual tactile click (vs. haptic feedback) on that new touchpad may irritate some users.

The 15" MacBook Pro Retina really remains the best MacBook (and arguably any notebook/portable) for Pro Tools and similar audio use.
