Default upgrading from 7.4 to 8.0 on non-Intel Mac G5

What is the upgrade path? It's hard to find on the website.

I have a G5 with 8.0 HD. I was under the impression that 8.0 LE was also available for G5s.

I'm talking about LE (just edited my original posts)

The only 8.0 upgrade/installer I can find on the Avid site calls for Intel Mac in system requirements.

If you have a 7.4 LE then you can purchase the upgrade to V8 through the Avid Store.

Depending what hardware you have might you might considering picking up and MBox 2/Mini. As digi have removed the hardware dependency in V9 and released the Mbox 3 there are a few Mbox 2 bargains around which include V8.

I keep hearing this, but can't find the upgrade path. The only place on the Avid Store page I can find clearly states "Intel Macs" only:

The person who is interested (who I am asking on his behalf) has the required hardware ... but not very tech savvy so has asked for help.

It can be done. I did it.

But i had 7.4 and i just bought pro tools 8.0. The highest you can run is 8.0.1cs2 on powerMac G5 dual with OS 10.5.8.

I recently purchased an 003R+ and the Pro Tools DVD included 8.0.3.

I'm assuming this is because they announced end of software support for the original MBox, PPC macs and older operating systems. If they allowed you to downgrade then they would have to support it which i'm guessing they don't want to do.

I have access to 8.0./8.0.1 but my version was registered approx two years ago.

That's exactly what my friend wants to do ... but can't find the upgrade path for pre-Intel Macs.

Can anyone point to a link that actually works on a G5?

Your right 8.0.3 only through the Avidstore.

Have a think about my earlier post, maybe even pick up an old Mbox 2 on ebay with the software included. All you need is the 8.0 installer disc and you can pick up all the updates on the avid website, 8.0.1 and 8.0.1cs2.

If you own LE 8 and can only get 8.0.3 ,consider asking avid to put an 8.0 installer in you Avid account. I'm not sure if you would need a support code for that but ive seen digitech help people on here. But that might be a long shot. I registered when 8 came out and still have the 8.0 version in my account. I have a g5 also. There is no need to upgrade anything. You can use the full installer if you can get your hands on it. What I don't understand is that I still have 7.4 versions in my account as well. Thank god ( you never know). 8.0 should be available considering the EOS on PPC.
