nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
The soft nLite (http://nuhi.msfn.org/) goes way further than the conventonial tips we use for optimizing Windows.
With 'conventional tips' we only desactive some services, fonctionnalities etc.. With nLite, we're now able to TOTALLY remove the unnecessary things of Windows. I've just maked a light version of Windows XP SP2 at my work and here are the result : Windows XP SP2 : 3.80Gb Windows XP SP2 with nLite : 2.10 Gb !!! The size of my system is now nearly the half size of my old system ! And Windows reacts faster since there's a lot less services and unnecessary stuff ! I^m going to test my new system with pt this week. I think i'll gain aat least 5 tracks in Davec test. There's a step during the configuration of nLite that allow you to tweak Window (removing transition in windows etc...) by simply clicking which options you want and which you don't. When the configuration is done, you burn the iso made by nLite on a CD (my iso is 178Mb now, instead of 640Mb of the normal Windows XP SP2) and you can install your new PT optimized Windows XP system. There's others options that let you add the drivers your need, the app you need and tweaks to make the installation of your system silent ( no popups for configuring your system. you set the value during nLite config, and then you just put the CD in ur host and let windows install alone). If someone tries it, please share with the DUC your experiences in order to know exactly which things can be removed without disturbing PT. |

Your link is a bit old i guess. The new one is: http://www.nliteos.com/index.html
And afaics it's free. Always good to know.... Beats Ghost maybe in doing a fresh install. I have to do a fresh install anyway...so i might try this with it.

Re: nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
I don't really know how I feel about using some alien program to shave down windows. With the lack of success I've been having, if this doesn't work, will the program allow me to go back to the original windows configuration? hmm........There has to be another way

Re: nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
kinda like using the ol' windows 98 lite, i guess.
install, remove, go. fast. but if there's too much computer inside your computer, it may prove bad. |

Re: nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
This "alien" program is now being used in many corporation where the use of windows is much more extensive (much more functionnalities). So if it work for them, it must work great for Protools.
Protools software is using very less components/functionnalities than a corporation computer. It 'only' have to execute is own code (software + plugins)and the display of sthe software. So the optimization than could be done should be maximale. You can't come back to your old Windows system without reinstalling it because nLite create an INSTALLATION CD of windows. You can create a dual boot or use ghost if u want to be able to come back to your old system |

Re: nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
I know, it's an old thread but I don't wanted to start a new one and it's an obvious question i have:
What stuff to delete with NLite for Pro Tools, that it doesn't need in Windows ?

Re: nLite : The best way to optimze Windows for PT
Is this application safe to run on a dual boot system (ie, will it only effect the OS on a specific partition)?
