I was running PT9 for a SUPER-long time. Once I finally upgraded to the latest/greatest version, I've had no reason to use PT10. I do, however, maintain an ancient legacy rig for up-conversion of old Mac-only-SDII sessions.

That's the reason permanent license bundles still have everything from PT10 to current. As said, PT10 is transition software and made it possible for Avid to drop some excess historic baggage from 64 bit PT

Can a Windows PT10 rig open a MAC-only (MAC/PC compatibility NOT checked) PT5 SDII session?

I don't think so. Mac files have thing called "resource fork" which gets lost when copied to CDROM or windows file system

Hence my comment:

Yes, which is why we still get to have that PT10 license, unless subscribing which AFAIK is year number releases only

On Windows, a PT10 license CANNOT up-convert MAC-only SDII PT5 sessions. My legacy rig CAN.

Yes, we are not disagreeing here. But if you have a subscription you do not have PT10 license for that legacy rig. Only year-number releases.

Of course not!!!

My only point is that Windows/PT10 CANNOT open a MAC-only/PT5/SDII session. I recently had to restore one, and could only open it using my legacy rig (green line of sig). I opened it with PT6, upped faders to +12, checked MAC/PC compatible, & converted to wav. Opened that conversion with current Windows/PT ---> viola.

It's cool that AVID makes available a 10 license, since it'll open some old session formats (not mine tho ...).

Yes and my only point is you lose that ability if you crossgrade to subscription, got it now?
