Default Apple acquires Emagic...

For those interested... here's a link:

http://www.emagic.de/english/news/index.html

As a PC user and registered, 14 year Emagic user, I'm ticked off. All Logic PC support will cease as of September 30th, 2002 - my 40th birthday. Happy birthday to me....

Now for the question that makes this ON topic for the DUC... how will this affect those of us who own Logic PC and a Digi 001?

So what would you do

buy a mac to run logic or switch to some other sequencer?

What would Apple have to do for you to consider buying a Mac?

Phil

Thanks for the heads up...

This is not good at all

I've been a registered Logic PC user since v2.5 (1997). I was using Logic way before I got the Digi001, and the reason I went for the Digi was so I could continue to use Logic as my primary package, with the added benefits of Pro Tools compatibility.

Not a happy bunny. Not at all.

So now what? Petition Emagic? Buy a Mac?

DAMN!! Just when my Logic/001/WinXP system was finally looking good.......

Not that I'd ever call myself a conspiracy theorist, but Emagic just switched everyone to USB dongles a couple of months ago. Interesting move in the light of this news perhaps?

A moment of silence for those who just went out a purchased Logic Audio Platinum 5.0 for their PC, has got to leave a sour taste in your mouth.
It's going to be interesting to see how this will affect the Pro Tool/Logic users on the PC platform.
Digi shows a optimistic side of being a PC user at the same time Emagic says forget it.
You just need to remember it's about the music, not the platform, not the product. Too many things change so quickly now that you have no control over.

I personally think this is a show of desperation on the part of Apple. In their own way they're trying to be like Microsoft, doing whatever they can to cut down the competition to boost themselves. In this case, they're trying to hurt the PC DAW market by discontinuing Logic for PC. To me this shows that Apple has been getting hurt by the inroads made by PC's in the worlds of audio and video production. And have you seen the Apple commercials with the propagandistic testimonials of people who switched from PC to Mac? Clearly Apple has kicked into high gear in its war on PC's. After all, they did just issue a profit warning, and revenues are down--not a surprise when you consider that one can get a PC twice as fast as the latest G4 for half the price, and with the growing base of software for PC (this announcement notwithstanding), clearly PC's are gaining ground quickly on the Mac stranglehold in the multimedia world.

Regardless, this is a shi*ty move by Apple.

i love it that they made the ipod mac only as a way to sell more imacs! THAT'S desperation - basing your entire existence on sales of a mp3 player....

Apple like Micorsoft? I hardly think so ... That 4 or 5 % market share means they actually have make good products in order to survive.
Apple will most likely split Emagic in two and have a home version (like iMovie) and a pro version (like Final Cut). I welcome the move since I never really liked Logic and maybe Apple can do something about the dreaded enviroment setups ... blech!

Now if they were like Microshaft they'd do somethying like this.

Happy trials... er uh, ... I mean trails !
