ProControl Vs DM2000????

Hi guys,

We are at the decision stage of a ProControl Vs DM2000 for a film mixing setup. I personally prefer to have a ProControl to add controlled power to the PT HD system but the investor...... [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

The cost factor also plays a role. Can anyone help me with a convincing comparison of a Yamaha DM2000 and ProControl.
I was even looking at a Control24 with a axis panner. The glitch is that Gallery is not promising the axis panner for PT6. J L kooper is the other option. but I believe in the Ethernet domain than MIDI domain.
Any ideas from those ones who did a real comparison? Any DM2000 user, please....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">haven't don' any comparison ... without a doubt the DM2000 is a fantastic console ... but you pointed THE reason out yourself. ethernet vs midi. Filmscore mixing right .... you want frame accurate automation that guaruantees you to do exactly the same every single pass don't you.

I've just started working in a room where they installed a DM2000 to use as a HUI for ProTools. Compared to a ProControl, it's a bit sluggish (MIDI vs. Ethernet is the real issue, as you guessed). However, it is a well designed console--a huge improvement over the O2R, and has a default ProTools mode that lets you have almost all of the same functions as a ProControl. Also, it's totally automated and has some decent DSP (reverbs, e.q.s, etc.) so you can combine it's power with the ProTools automation and put less stress on your Mac's CPU and PCI bus. It also has 24 mic pre-amps, but if you're not going to need live recording capability, that's moot. I don't know about the axis panner you mentioned, but the DM2000 does have considerable surround monitoring/panning ability. Still, if you can convince the owners to spend the extra, go for a ProControl with a couple of fader packs.

By the way, I have had ProTools freeze up while writing automation using both ProControl AND the DM2000!! Anyone else have this happen? Doesn't matter if any tracks are in record, nor does it matter if the movie track is online. The only cure is to restart the Mac. Usually happens if I leave my hand on a fader (or two) for more than a few seconds while in any of the automation write modes. Causes much cursing as you can imagine. Digidesgn?? Any ideas?
