Default ProTools 11.2.1 Crashes opening 11.2 Session

Just updated to HDX 11.2.1. Tried to load the session I was working on 20 minutes ago in HDX 11.2. ProTools crashes to the desktop every time.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Jules

Crashes continue if I remove all plugins from the system, so looks like it's not a plugin issue.

Is there anywhere I can send a log without having to pay for the privilege?

Rolled back to HDX 11.2. Everything opens fine again.

Looks like something is not right with 11.2.1.

System is 2010 Intel Mac Pro, 12 core 3GHz, 64 GB Ram, Mavericks.

Let me know if I can send crash logs somewhere.

The way support and the moderators chime in and help out on serious issues posted here is just great! Thanks guys, really. So glad I dropped £20,000 on an HDX system and now have to pay if I want support.

This issue has not gone away.

Ok I'll bite - but for future reference being rude about the forum users isn't typically the best way to get replies. Avid staff post rarely and everyone else here doesn't get paid for offering their support and experience.

You can post a crash report here if you use the code tags - looks like a hashtag in the toolbar. Alternatively just read at the start of the report which thread was the crashed thread then you should be able to paste the contents of just that thread here.

Did you try opening the session with plugins inactive? I would think a plugin would be the most likely culprit in a situation like this. Is it only one session this happens on or all your sessions? Did you try trashing prefs and so on?

Did you . .

power cycle all devices after installing update.

trash prefs

repair permissions

open Pro tools into a New session and make sure all audio driver settings are correct.

Just some things to try.

Hi Jay

Yes - tried the usual sequence of troubleshooting hoop-jumping, but it made no difference.

Also, as soon as I reinstalled 11.2.0 everything was fine again - my template loaded no problem. That said, I am now seeing constant flakiness with bigger sessions. All AAX plugins, but I get around 6-10 spontaneous poofs a day. Usually caused by dragging a channel in the mixer window or other GUI type actions.

In short, PT11 on HDX with 6 interfaces, 2 HDX cards on a certified mac Pro (64GB Ram) is about as stable here as ... well, it's not very stable!

Thanks for your help. Am I the only one who feels that Avid's pay-as-you-go support service is a rip off? I'm £20k in the hole on their products, having a bunch of issues, why should I pay for support?

Jules

Sorry Suicine - missed your post.

My criticism was aimed solely at those who operate here in an official or quasi-official capacity, and certainly not at forum-users in general.

I have seen posts which were easy to address get immediate responses from the mods, but many where the issue is either diplomatically contentious or where Avid seem disinterested in seeking solutions get totally ignored. If Avid offered free support, meaning users had other means to seek help, then perhaps I could accept that, but as I understand things, that's not the case.

For the record, I've been a happy ProTools HD (now HDX) user for 13 years, some of which were spent as a beta-tester on PTHD. In my humble opinion, and my limited and only personal experience, HDX is sometimes great but often flaky, and on a bad day almost unusable. I'm wasting hours upon hours reloading sessions which crash on me 8-10 times a day, simply because I drag a track in the mixer window. Much as I'd like to try the latest update, despite trashing prefs etc., even in a blank template, PT crashed, so I'm stuck with 11.2.0 until things get address, and unfortunately getting more and more frustrated as time goes on.

No excuse perhaps for venting that frustration here, for which I apologise.

Jules

did you also try not loading your template? regular session.

Loading into a blank session and importing session data to rebuild a template?
