Dropping sync after 6+ hours
I recently added a Sync HD and GEN10 to my system. Picture and audio seem to sync perfectly for most of the day, but after 6+ hours of working, the locked and speed cal lights flicker on/off and Pro Tools gives me the 'dropped sync' dialog. It's also immediately followed by the 'sync locked' dialog.
It happens more frequently as the day goes on, so I'm wondering if something is overheating. It never happens the for 4-6 hours of working, but by 8 hours of working, the sync drops/reconnects once or twice a minute. I have to shut off the SyncHD and GEN10 and run internal. Has anyone experienced behavior like this with a GEN10? OSX PTHD 12.3 Native Omni SyncHD GEN10 AJA Kona LHi

Re: Dropping sync after 6+ hours
I have two Gen10's, one from 2008 and the other from 2013. No problems ever with their stability. It definitely sounds like you have a heat-related problem. I'd replace cables first. Might be a poor inner conductor contact of a coax cable. Does your equipment get very warm?
Actually it might just be a poor connection and heat has little or no role. Is the SyncHD new?

Re: Dropping sync after 6+ hours
In one of the rooms where I work, we had a SYNC I/O that would fail by losing sync. It was out of warranty, and we needed a SYNC|HD anyway, so we went that route. My best guess was that this failure was heat related, though the 192 I/O directly beneath it never had a problem.

Re: Dropping sync after 6+ hours
Yep, sounds like sync HD overheating. I pulled mine from the (admittedly too warm) rack and all has been well.

Re: Dropping sync after 6+ hours
I have had heat related issues as well,
I shuffled the rack to give the Sync 1ru above and below and all was well

Re: Dropping sync after 6+ hours
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I decided to test my theory about the heat. My Omni and SyncHD were right in top of each other, so I decided to separate them by two rack spaces. I remember having a problem with the Onni fan going nuts when I tried having my Xmon tacked on top of it.
Since separating the two yesterday morning, I've ran my gear for two full days with no sync problem. I feel petty certain it was the SyncHD overheating.
