Bounce: not enough disc space!
Hi there,
I have browsed the complete forums already but apparently this problem is not yet fully explained. I use a PowerMac G4 1000MP with 1,5 gigRam and an external firewire drive with 34 gig available free space. Pro Tools LE 5.0.1 & Digi 001. I want to bounce a session of about 200 minutes (live gig). No Miditracks, no instruments - just audio! When I hit "save" to start bouncing, the dialog says there is not enough free space on the disc selected. Selecting the regions to be bounced or leaving them unselected - same thing! Message keeps coming. Even the disc/space indicator confirms my 34gig of free space to be available. Is there a solution or trick? (except from upgrading to another version!) thanks riz |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
I would try to consolidate each audio files to make bigger region (every 30min. or 200min. I don't know which way is the best). and make copy of entire session to other HD (as the second option?).
Simply figure out how easily PT can access all audio files. I think it is more like " where and how much PT has to access to audio files." not "where PT is going to bounce to." Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
I did some audio cutting, but yes, in the end I want to bounce one stereofile of about 200 minutes. Is there maybe a limit in duration or something?
Maybe Digidesign can give an answer to that... ;-) |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
Pro Tools has a single audio file size limit of 2048MB, even when used with Mac OS 9.x and the HFS+ file system. This equates to about 4.5 hours at 24-bit, 44.1 kHz.
Although cutting it close, it appears that your program length will fall within these limitations. Perhaps highlighting the section of audio you want to bounce (instead of Pro Tools attempting to bounce the entire length of the session) will allow you to proceed with the bounce. Brent |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
Brent,
to be sure everything goes well, I cut my session into 28 regions (from 2 to 20 minutes duration). No matter which region I select with the hand tool, ProTools keeps saying "the total length of the bounce is beyond the limits ProTools can process". I have selected just a snippet. This is weird. |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
How is the drive you are bouncing to formatted?
I have seen a similar thing to this. The problem was the Firewire drive had been formatted into partitions in OSX and was not returning the correct space-remaining. It looked fine in the OS and pther programs until you actually tried to copy to it. Just a thought...

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
format HFS+.
If that would be a problem (which would be amazing news, if it doesn't work with HFS+) it might also not be able to record the original/raw material from the master tape into the session. |

Re: Bounce: not enough disc space!
If you have enough space on the internal IDE drive, try copying this session to that drive and try the bounce again. It could work...At least, that would solve part of your problem and prove that the Firewire is to blame.
If that doesn't work, you might just have a corrupted session. Try to open a new session (try this on the Firewire drive and the internal IDE drive), import your 200Meg file and try bouncing again.
