Default 10 HD sluggish

Hey folks, running an intel i7 950/Gigabyte EX58A-UD3R setup with 12GB of RAM and the 003 console. It runs 9 non-HD just great. Been running 10HD for a week now and it works(IOW, I am able to do all I need) but it is sluggish in a lot of ways. Loading the software....slow. Loading a session...slow. Adding a plugin.....slow. Other than the waiting, it is all working correctly. 10.1.2 is where I am at (Installed and updated in one shot). Should I roll back to 10 or 10.0.1?

Dave, I personally have not tried 10.1.2 but I would use 10.0.1. Pro Tools 10 does take a performance hit but not in regards to loading speeds. I would also, start a fresh with a clone or new partition before installing Pro Tools 10.

Thanks for the info guys. I still have some experimentation to do, but overall, I am really digging 10, and love the HD feature of input monitoring per track. I have backup drives so when time permits, I will set one of them for 10.0.1 and see if it makes things any faster. I had to scramble to resurrect the rig after I hosed it and needed files(since you can't open a .ptx session in PT9). Now I got the weekend on the left coast, so no PT for 2 whole days

I have been using PT 10 on my Mac without problems UNTIL this week end
Suddenly it takes forever to load a session or a plugin , lounching PT is also slow
Once the session opens it works and sound fine until you need to open a new plugin, the beachbal appears and takes a long time to load the plug except for the native Digi like EQ or Dyn, these lounch instantly
Any help? Did you resolve your problem>?

When loading a session how long would you say is long. My sessions take about 2-3 mins is this long or quite short?

When I click on Okay to load a session, absolutely nothing happens for 6 to 8 seconds. Then the session opens fine. The other sluggish bit is when adding most any plugin. It just takes longer for the plugin to appear, and if I click on anything else while waiting, it will often go to a grey screen(and total freeze).

yo albee...you probably looked at these already but sounds suspiciously like disk fragmentation and/or desktop composition bein' enabled. give 'em a look if you haven't already...

Desktop Composition is disabled. As for fragmentation, I guess I'll have to look into that. I have never defragged any of my recording drives(afraid it will screw up sessions). Drives are all at least half empty, so do you still think I need to go there? All ran fine with PT9 on the same machine(with the same recording drives)

I was thinkin more system drive than audio drive. I always have to defrag after a PT install...and it always runs better once I do...especially since I have my OS partitions cut so small...50 gig. Anyway...just somethin to look at....
