Default How to \'bus\' ALL tracks receive same insert? PTLE

Can I insert an effect to say 8 tracks (eg Wave Arts FinalPlug) at once? I cannot see a final mixdown in the Mixer panel, nor a bottom combined track in the 'Timeline'. (Am from a film background so I have a weird mindset). It would seem mad to bounce to disk and then apply the required effect in, say, Peak. Am using latest software and MBox with a G5. TIA. (Please explain slowly as it were.)

Creat an AUX track, set it up the input for the bus you're using, and put the plug-in on the aux track. You can use the the individual bus controls on each track to determine HOW MUCH of the effect you want.

Create a Stereo Master Fader.

Well that would work, but if you wanted to create additional tracks in the session that didn't have that insert, or if you wanted some of the tracks to also have another insert, or if you wanted to have a different wet/dry mix depending on the track, you would have to go the aux track route. In addition, the aux track would work even if you didn't create a master fader.

However, there is one advantage to the master fader: if you wanted all tracks to have the same insert, same wet/dry mix of the insert and the input level to the insert to follow the track's volume automation, going the master fader route would certainly be the simplest way to do it. But even then, you might change your mind about some of those things...

My response was prompted by 'I cannot see a final mixdown in the Mixer panel', which suggested he didn't know about Master Faders.

Very many thanks for the responses to my query/quandry - it's quite a wonderful resource here. A new perspective opens on PT - I love it even more! Surya

Indeed you are right. I guess it just goes to show how two people can read the same thing and get different interpretations based on what sentences they focus on. I was responding to "Can I insert an effect to say 8 tracks (eg Wave Arts FinalPlug) at once?"

So we gave him two options. Between both of us I'd say we've done our good deed for the day on the DUC!
