Default Mixing a Theatrical Trailer

I'm mixing my first official theatrical trailer and was wondering if someone where might have the experience to answer a few questions... I've read what I can find, but am still a bit unsure on the following:

TASA spec of 85dB. Are there any other specs that go with this? Like Truepeak limit etc? Or is it really just that I can't go over 85 on the LEQ.

We will mix in 5.1, but for a theatrical trailer, will they expect a stereo mix as well? Not sure if when you deliver trailers you deliver both, or only a 5.1...

When measuring the TASA number, should I only be measuring the length of the 'content' or also the length with the head leader on? Since this is a loudness measurement over time, I assume adding in the head and tail leaders will affect the LEQ number?

Thanks for any input!

Hi,

Make sure it is LEQ(m), not (a). Measure the 'content' including the LFE. For this you will need the Dolby Media Meter 2 or WAVES WLM. And that's it.

As to 5.1 + Stereo, up to Distributor.

Only measure the spot, not leader.

No peak limit, just use a safety limiter.

Turn your monitor volume down

Got it, thanks everyone.

Hitting a bit of a snag, after reading all the TASA documentation, it appears I have to be able to generate a TASA certification... but no idea how to do that. I have no doubt I can mix the trailer and make it all proper.

But not quite sure how to get a TASA certification after that. I don't run a full dub house, and don't normally do trailers at all, so anyone have an idea of a company I could send to just for the certification part?

Thanks for all the help!

Tim

See if you can get your client to pay the $425 fee.
