Default Pro Tools 12 HD with 6-core CPU

Hey, all. My souped-up 3-year-old workstation has taken a dive, so I'm going to replace the guts with an upgrade. Core i7 of course, but deciding between a quad or 6-core CPU. Anybody running PT on a 6-core? Any advantage or disadvantage?

6-core all the way. And at least 32GB of RAM. Pay attention to the memory options on the motherboard, because if its capable of running Quad-Channel RAM, then you want 4(or 8) matching sticks(any other amount of RAM sticks will slow down performance). The cost savings going quad is only going to make you outgrow the system sooner(for not a lot of $$ savings). And yes, I'd stick with intel i7. AMD's new Ryzen looks great on paper, but......

Thanks much. I'd certainly love to go 6-core.

This. Intel all the way and get as many cores as you can. I have an 8 core that runs like a dream.

I think I have a GeForce 750 TI. Its a "mid-level" card(around $140) and works dandy with 3 screens(DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort). All 3 screens have HDMI inputs so 2 have adapter cables(DisplayPort can daisy-chain for 4 screens if the monitors have the correct ports, but mine do not).

yep 6 core or 8 if you can afford it.

i have the 6850k

I also run a EVGA GeForce GTX760SC. Basically you don't want to buy bottom of the barrel graphics cards because with all of the screen redraws PT really can use the Graphics Juice.

Better to have it and not need it, than to.......
