Default D Command Fader Fix advice

I have the original gray D Command that has a fader that has seriously gone bad. I have had a problem with intermittent fighting faders.

I am wondering if I should go ahead and replace all of the faders in hopes that my fighting fader problems will be eliminated by having new, better faders; or should I just replace the fader that totally doesn't work? Cost of new faders will be an issue. Any guesses as to the cost. Another issue is how difficult and time consuming it will be to pull the D Command apart in order to do the replacement.

I replaced all 8 faders on my ES, and it was pretty easy and fast to do. Initially, I had one fader go bad after only 3 hours of use, so Chris suggested that I'd replace them all with the new, improved ones. Never had a problem since. Don't know the cost, though.

For some reason $110 per fader is sticking in my head.

You want the carbon faders that come on the newer units not the plastic faders that came on yours.

The Carbons are more money but worth it. You do have to do all in a bucket (so 8 for the main and 16 for a fader pack) but you don't have to do main and bucket at the same time.

How do I tell if faders are carbon or plastic. I happen to have 3 new replacement faders for the D Command that I picked up a couple of years ago.

I think the carbons have only been available for about 2~2.5 years

the carbons cost more than the plastic and all in a unit need to be the same so you probably have plastic

I guess this thread is more about replacement, so I posted my cleaning success story in the "fighting faders" thread
