Default does Digi Pre need an midi interface?

I'm putting together a system and I need to know how digi pre works in a system, does it need an midi interface?

Also is Digi midi interface discontinued?

It is connected via standard midi cables to be controllable through the GUI. It can work standalone however. You do need some kind of midi interface to get it into the system. sb
