Default problem listening to engineered songs

I have an mbox (protools le 6.7)

After learning through a tutorial, I knew enough to realize a prof engineer would be better for my project (basically, I suck at engineering.)

But I would still like to have access to my work...

Problem: His files have a different extension that my protools can NOT recognize.

His files: .ptf

my files: .pts (i believe...can't access right now)

someone told me that it might have to do with his being a newer version!

help, please!

Your engineer has 7.x. He does have the option of saving the session files to be compatible with your version (.pts) though.

Have him look in his Reference Guide (page 102 7.4 Ref --
page 89 of the 7.3 Reference Guide):

Quote:
Session Format
You can save the session copy in the following
formats, depending on your platform:
Windows:
• Pro Tools Session (.ptf); supports Pro Tools
7.x
• Pro Tools 5.1 -> 6.9 Session (.pts);
• Pro Tools 5.0 Session (.pt5)
• Pro Tools 4 24-Bit Session (.p24)
• Pro Tools 4 16-Bit Session (.pt4)

Or you can upgrade to 7.3 or 7.4 and open the files yourself.

Cheers,

okay.

u seem to know what you're talking about. And if you talk with me further, you'll know I don't so forgive if this next part sounds dopey...

There was a time we were given the option to download for free in order to upgrade to 7.0...would that work, is that option still there? do I need to contact digidesign...

thanks! you're a honey.

Just upgrade to 7.x, whether it's free or not.
The worst case scenario is you'll spend 75.00 for the upgrade.

Keep in mind it doesn't have to be your original engineer.
Anyone with any version of 7.x can re-save the original sessions in a compatible format.

Let me also give some props to Digi for going to pains to protect backward compatibility. Not all DAW software manufacturers provide that function dating back to their original versions.
